CHENNAI: Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi on Sunday announced the State Government's decision to revoke the previous Government's order providing for transfer of the employees of the Secretariat to other offices, besides shifting them from one section to another citing administrative reasons.
Hastily issued
In a statement here, he said that orders were issued on Sunday to revoke the Government Order (G.O.) "hastily issued" by the previous Government on September 15, 2003 as a "vindictive" measure against the Secretariat employees for launching an agitation in July 2003. The G.O. provided for amending the rules, which ensured the continuance of service of the Secretariat staff in the same office, he recalled. Though over 1,000 files were pending with the then Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, the file to issue the G.O. was sent to her office on August 26, 2003 and got her clearance on September 11, 2003, Mr.Karunanidhi pointed out.
Request accepted
The present Government, which had accepted the request of the Tamil Nadu Secretariat Association, decided to revoke the G.O., he said.
