Hyderabad
Driving in city is dreadful The Government seems to be in deep slumber or is it to be construed as "chalta hai'' attitude given the number of road accidents in and around the city. Driving a two-wheeler in Mumbai city for four years, I never felt any sense of fear but either walking on the road or using any mode of transport in Hyderabad is dreadful. Every inch of Hyderabad is a death-trap - what with poor road designs, improper lighting, inept traffic management and horrendous civic sense among the road users. The Government, in general, the civic and ministration and traffic police in particular, are solely responsible for transforming Hyderabad into a deadly city. As such, I wonder how Hyderabad got the `best city award' consecutively for 3 years. D. Mohana Rao, Begumpet Give details of tenants Since the twin cities have also come under the threat of terrorist attacks, Government should make it mandatory for the apartment owners who let their apartments to tenants to inform the particulars of their tenants along with their passport size photographs to the police station under whose jurisdiction their apartment falls. P.K.V.R. Jan, Safilguda More bus services With the proposal to augment the fleet of SETWIN buses on the road, the route-starved areas must get relief. RTC has been ignoring the genuine needs of the public all these years despite the problem being highlighted through various representations and letters published in the local news- papers. Areas like Red Hills do not figure in the RTC map. There are no buses from this area via Cancer Hospital to RTC crossroads, Koti, Secunderabad, Punjagutta or towards Hi-tec City. It is time more SETWIN buses are run to help the people. Vidyadhar Rao, Red Hills Check noise pollution The noise pollution created by beating of drums, honking by lorries and RTC buses and other vehicular traffic in Padmaraonagar is making our life miserable. The Supreme Court issued orders that `no one shall beat a drum or blow a trumpet or use sound amplifier at nights' ( The Hindu , dated 20.7.2005). Unfortunately, this rule is not being enforced by the authorities and as such is causing serious health problems to children and senior citizens as their sleep gets disturbed. It is hoped that the concerned authorities will take necessary action to deal with the ill effects of noise pollution. C.K. Chelvaraj, Padmaraonagar Stamp on Nagaiah It is heartening to observe that our Postal Department has released stamps in memory of several film personalities like Sivaji Ganesan, Gemini Ganesan, MGR, NTR, A.V. Meyyappan, S.S. Vasan, Guru Dutt, Ghantasala, L.V. Prasad -- to name a few. Unfortunately, so far no stamp has been released in honour of Chittoor V. Nagiah who was described as Paul Muni of India by famous film critic Babu Rao Patel. Nagaiah was father figure to many artistes. He was held in high esteem by greats like Dr.S. Radhakrishnan, Justice P. Rajamannar and the then rulers of Travancore and Mysore. He was writer, producer, director, singer, music director and above all, a philanthropist. It will be befitting honour to the great artiste with a commemorative stamp, as pleaded by Dasari Narayan Rao. M.V. H. Rao, Alwal
