Pension scheme Sir, While the Bill related to rise in salary, perks and pension for MPs is passed by voice vote in Parliament, not one MP has ever raised the issue of sufferings of people without pension. For most of those who have retired from public sector units and private establishments, the only source of income is interest earned on postal deposits and similar instruments. They have pooled their retirement benefits to meet family expenses such as children's education and marriage. They find it difficult to meet the ever-increasing cost of living. The Sixth Pay Commission to be constituted by the Union Government should devise a pension scheme for them and also make provision for their medical support. S. Venkata Ram, Bangalore Buses for elderly Sir, Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation is running special buses exclusively for women passengers. Likewise, it can run buses for senior citizens because they find it difficult to board the overcrowded buses during peak hours. Sham Sunder, Bangalore
Bad precedent Sir, Officials of the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike have from time to time demolished unauthorised buildings in Bangalore city. Yet many residential and commercial complexes are built directly above drains. Such multi-storeyed buildings are located around K.R. Market, S.R. Nagar and Lalbagh Road. This will set a bad precedent. Officials concerned should check such irregularities. N. Raju, Bangalore Increase bus service Sir, Many commuters travel to Ulsoor, Indira Nagar, 100 Ft Road, Domlur and Koramangala from Peenya, Nagashetty Halli and Yelahanka. They can take only Route No 205 from Yeshwantpur and from Mehkri Circle. The frequency of this bus is poor and people have to wait for hours, especially during peak hours. The authorities concerned should do the needful. R. Seshadri, Bangalore Readers can also email their letters to letters.bangalore @thehindu.co.in
