This Day That Age
The conclusion that Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose died in an air-crash at the Taihoku airfield, in Formosa, on August 18, 1945, and the ashes now at Renkoji Temple in Tokyo are his ashes, has been reached by the Netaji Bose Enquiry Committee, Prime Minister Nehru told the Lok Sabha on September 11. Making a statement on the report, which was placed on the table of the House, he said the Government felt that this conclusion of the committee about Netaji's death should be accepted as the evidence adduced in the report was practically overwhelming. The committee has also recommended that the ashes from the Renkoji Temple be brought to India with honour and a memorial be erected for Netaji at a suitable place. Mr. Nehru said the Government did not propose at this stage to take any action in regard to this recommendation. "This is a matter in which primarily the family of Netaji is concerned and it is only after consultation with them that any step should be taken." The report of the committee, appointed in April last, is signed by the Chairman, Mr. Shah Nawaz Khan, and Mr. S.N. Maitra, one of the other two members. The third member, Mr. Suresh Chandra Bose, brother of Netaji, has not signed the report nor has he submitted a minute of dissent.
