Bhopal: A mob of Bhil tribals, angry over police "failure" to arrest those responsible for the rape of a woman of their community, killed a town inspector near Koniyakalan village in Guna district of Madhya Pradesh on Sunday afternoon. According to information here, a tribal was also killed and many others, including policemen were injured in the violence and subsequent police firing. According to police sources, the tribal woman of Nahargarh in Rajgarh district was allegedly raped at knifepoint near Koniyakalan by two persons on August 21. It was reported that that her child was hurled away. The police said the rape was reported only on August 25, and a case registered under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code and Sections 26 and 31-11 of the SCs/STs Act. However, the tribals said though they went to the Chachoda police station immediately after the crime, the town inspector refused to register the complaint. At this, the victim's family and relatives organised a `mahapanchayat' at Dund. The tribals also decided to take revenge on acommunity, to which the rapists belong, at Koniyakalan. On receiving this information, the police reached the spot and opened fire after failing to control the agitated mob. The town inspector was attacked with sharp weapons as he fell into a ditch while running for shelter. He died on way to the Binaganj hospital. Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly Jamuna Devi and Mahila Congress State president Shobha Oza visited the spot on Monday to assess the situation.
