L-G resumes his official duties

NEW DELHI: After availing of leave, Delhi's Lieutenant-Governor B.L. Joshi on Monday resumed his official duties at Raj Nivas here, a release issued by his office said.

NSUI team congratulated

NEW DELHI: Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Ram Babu Sharma has congratulated the National Students' Union of India candidates who emerged winners in the recent Delhi University Students' Union elections.

Describing the election of Amrita Dhawan as the new DUSU president as a "historic event", he said, "The credit for the DUSU victory goes to Congress president Sonia Gandhi whose farsightedness, national policies and welfare of the youth have revolutionised the thinking process of the student community. As a result, youngsters are coming under the banner of Congress party."

New initiative

NEW DELHI: A memorandum of understanding has been signed between Indira Gandhi National Open University and Power Finance Corporation Limited for institutionalising a learning initiative titled "Advanced Certificate in Power Distribution Management" for junior engineers, assistant engineers and officers of equivalent ranks at distribution utilities in various States and Union Territories.

The minimum duration of the programme is six months and it can be completed in a maximum period of two years. The eligibility is a bachelor's degree in engineering/science/commerce or three-year diploma in engineering recognised by the Association of Indian Universities/All-India Council for Technical Education with a minimum of two years of executive work experience.

The inaugural programme is scheduled for launch on October 2.

MLA assures redress

NEW DELHI: MLA Naseeb Singh was accorded a warm welcome by residents of Takshshila Cooperative Group Housing Society in the I.P. Extension area of East Delhi over the weekend.

Accompanied by senior MCD officials, Mr. Naseeb Singh gave a patient hearing to major common problems of the society's residents including installation of electronic meters, choking and overflowing of drains and differentials in ground level. He assured the residents of quick redress and said more bus stop shelters would come up at prominent locations in I.P. Extension.

Blood donation camp

NEW DELHI: Sawan Kirpal Ruhani Mission organised its 19th blood donation camp at Kirpal Bagh here this past week in memory of Sant Darshan Singh.

Sant Rajinder Singh, who inaugurated the camp held in collaboration with the Red Cross Society of India, said blood donation was an expression of innate respect and value for human life.
