LUCKNOW: To speed up disposal of litigations in rural areas over ownership of land, the Uttar Pradesh Government on Monday decided to bring `U.P. Revenue Code Bill' in the ongoing Assembly session. A State Cabinet meeting here approved the draft of the proposed U.P. Revenue Code Bill.
The Bill, expected to be introduced during the ongoing monsoon session of the
Official sources said the new law aims to check the litigation in rural areas over the ownership of agriculture land.
After the new law, the Government would have special powers to set up special courts to dispose of litigations in a speedy manner.
Earlier in September 1979, the then Janata Party Government had brought a similar Bill in the U.P. Legislature, but it could not be passed as the Government fell soon after.
In another decision, the Mulayam Singh Yadav Government has decided to distribute 2.5 crore sarees among 1.27 crore women in the next two months. The Government had made a provision of Rs.250 crore in the budget through the second supplementary budget passed by the Assembly on August 24.
All women of 18 years of age and above, both married and widow having the Antyodya and BPL card of the Public Distribution System (PDS), would be eligible for free sarees.
The Women Welfare Department will supervise the whole process of saree distribution while the food department has been entrusted with the responsibility of identification of the beneficiaries.
The sarees will be distributed in special functions to be organised at the block, sub division (tehsil) and the district headquarter level.- UNI
