MAHABUBNAGAR: District Collector V. Usha Rani has called upon field officers and bankers to chalk out an action plan so as to extend a helping hand to farmers whose crops have dried up due to adverse seasonal conditions. Addressing a specially convened meeting of bankers and sectoral officers here on Monday, the Collector said that almost all the crops were in withering stage in 38 out of 64 mandals where the rainfall was recorded minus 50 per cent. She said revenue officials had been directed to record `pahanis' on all standing crops while officials of insurance companies had been requested to go to the fields and assess the crops loss.
Notices to farmers
She said notices were being issued to farmers who raised paddy under irrigation borewells. Ms. Usha Rani urged bankers to extend financial facility to farmers who had taken up irrigated dry crops. She said that 10,000 hectares were being irrigated with ID crops under borewells. She said that horticulture was being promoted in 5,000 hectares. The Collector said loan melas would be organised under 225 bank branches from September 13 to 15 for the help of aspiring farmers who were interested in horticulture.
