YSR asks Brandix to expedite work

Special Correspondent

VISAKHAPATNAM: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy has directed Brandix, the Sri Lankan readymade garment company setting up a unit on the outskirts of the city to expedite work.

Noting that one and a half years ago the company had promised to provide 60,000 jobs while getting allotment of land, he said: "Please tell your team that we are very much concerned about the slow pace of work." As Brandix was a big name in Sri Lanka, the Government had allotted so much (1,000 acres) land, expecting it would rope in other major players also in the industry, he stated.

Appointment letters

Later, Dr. Reddy handed over appointment letters to men and women on behalf of the company, at the beginning of a media conference held on Monday.

Earlier, the management representative of Brandix, Anthony, explained that so far about 200 persons had been recruited. They were being provided training in Pendurthy as the infrastructure of the company was not ready.
