Mechanical snag delays train

Staff Reporter

Thiruvananthapuram: The 6329 Mangalore-bound Malabar Express was held up at Kazhakuttom railway station near here for one hour and 40 minutes on Monday evening following a mechanical snag in one of the coaches.

Railway sources said the snag was noticed in the brake pipe of S-9 coach of the train when it was approaching Kochuveli at 6.45 p.m.

Efforts to rectify the snag did not succeed at Kochuveli and the train was finally taken to the Kazhakuttom railway station. Mechanical staff arrived by road from Thiruvananthapuram Central and rectified the snag. The train left Kazhakuttom railway station at 8.25 p.m.

When contacted, a railway spokesman said the train was held up due to "brakebinding." Senior Divisional Mechanical Engineer T. M. Abdu Rehman and Assistant Divisional Mechanical Engineer supervised the repair work, said the spokesman.
