AGITATION: The Tirunelveli MLA N. Maalairaja (fourth from left) staging a dharna on Monday.
TIRUNELVELI : When a Member of the Legislative Assembly of the ruling party decides to agitate, pressing his demand, it is really interesting. Tirunelveli MLA N. Maalairaja of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam asked all officials associated with the ongoing work of the Thatchanallur Drinking Water Scheme to accompany him for a spot inspection on Monday and a review meeting to be held later to ascertain the progress in the scheme, only top officials from the Tirunelveli Corporation turned up. As Executive Engineer of Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board Krishnan, who was actually executing the project, was absent, Mr. Maalairaja asked the lower-level representatives from the TWAD Board to call him immediately over the phone. But the official could not come, "as he was attending a marriage." The MLA sat in front of the Anna statue near the Corporation office and started his protest. A top official from the TWAD Board pacified the MLA over phone with an assurance that "appropriate action" would be taken against the engineer.
