Car thieves held

NEW DELHI: With the arrest of three persons alleged to be involved in vehicle thefts, the South Delhi police claim to have recovered four stolen cars and a country-made firearm.

The Special Staff of the South Delhi police on Sunday received a tip-off that three men named Sanjay, Vipin and Kamal Kishore would come to East of Kailash in a stolen Getz car. A a trap was laid and the trio were arrested by a team led by Inspector Rajender Singh.

During interrogation, they allegedly confessed to having stolen 26 luxury cars and five motorcycles in the past three months. The stolen vehicles were allegedly disposed of at Chandigarh in Punjab, and Saharanpur, Sultanpur and Mau in Uttar Pradesh.

Auto-lifters arrested

NEW DELHI: Seven people allegedly involved in auto-lifting cases have been arrested across South Delhi this past week. Four stolen auto-rickshaws and 11 motorcycles have been recovered by the police at their instance.

Five of the accused, Mohammad Iqbal, Ajit Singh, Chander Sen, Anand and Raju Katya, were arrested by the Malviya Nagar police on Sunday for allegedly stealing five auto-rickshaws. The police claim to have recovered a country-made firearm and 25 gm of smack from their possession.

In another case, Asrar and Shaheen were arrested by the Anti Auto-Theft Squad for their alleged involvement in 30 cases of auto-theft. At their instance, the police recovered 11 motorcycles. During interrogation, the accused purportedly revealed that they used to dispose of the stolen vehicles in North East India.

Man held for murder

NEW DELHI: A 35-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly killing a 35-year-old woman and committing robbery in her house at Dabri in South-West Delhi on September 1.

According to the police, Manju Aggarwal, wife of Devki Nandan Aggarwal, a resident of Sitapuri in Dabri, had been stabbed to death. Some cash and jewellery was found missing from her house that had been ransacked.

Investigations revealed that Mr. Aggarwal had rented out one of the rooms on the second floor of his house recently. The occupant, Mushtaq, had been missing since the incident. Following various leads, the police managed to arrest Mushtaq from a factory in Gurgaon.

Artificial callipers camp

NEW DELHI: Rajya Sabha member and senior Congress leader J.P. Aggarwal on Monday inaugurated an artificial callipers camp for the handicapped at Sangam Vihar in South Delhi. The free treatment camp witnessed a large number of people coming forward and taking advantage of the medical expertise available.

More than 250 people including handicapped children, men and women benefited from the camp and were handed artificial callipers free of cost. Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee treasurer Dinesh Gupta and social activist Ramavtar Kila were special invitees at the function organised by Marwari Youth Manch.

Tributes to Tamil poet

NEW DELHI: Members of the Delhi Tamil Sangam and scores of Tamilians in the Capital paid floral tributes to revolutionary poet Subramaniya Bharathi, on his 85th death anniversary, at his statue in Bharathi Nagar in New Delhi on Monday.
