NEW DELHI: Former Union Minister and senior BJP leader Vijay Goel claimed on Monday that the latest notification issued by the Union Urban Development Ministry would not provide any relief to the masses but would only promote "inspector raj" and corruption in the Capital. Addressing a press conference, Mr. Goel said it was surprising that when the Tejinder Khanna Committee could submit its report within three months, the Union Urban Development Ministry had failed to finalise and notify the Master Plan for Delhi-2021 even after three years. "It is surprising that the Government is going out of the way to amend the Master Plan for Delhi-2001 when it could just go ahead and notify the new Master Plan for Delhi taking care of all the ground realities." Asserting that claims of relief to a major section by the Congress party were false and without any basis, Mr. Goel said: "there is hardly any relief for traders and shop owners who have submitted affidavits to the Supreme Court". "Will the shops owners and traders who have submitted affidavits be able to get relief from the ongoing sealing process?" he asked. He said the notification did not give any relief to those who had indulged in unauthorised constructions but only to shops that were guilty of misuse of premises. He claimed that even shops and houses that have made the slightest of deviation from the sanctioned plan would be sealed by MCD officials keeping in view the directions of the Delhi High Court. Accusing the Delhi Government and the Centre of taking the people of Delhi for a ride, Mr. Goel said there had been no mention of the notification that deals with unauthorised constructions and amendment of building by-laws. He sought immediate notification of the Master Plan for Delhi-2021 so that people get permanent relief from sealing and demolitions.
