Parametric expands ties with Newgen

To explore avenues in publishing industry

CHENNAI : Parametric Technology Corporation (India), a subsidiary of the U.S.- based product lifecycle management company PTC, has announced the expansion of its engagement with Newgen Imaging Systems, a Chennai-based publishing company. Newgen will expand the use of Arbortext, an automation software solution that was acquired by Parametric Technology in July 2005, to provide customised documentation and management services.

Addressing presspersons here on Tuesday, Rohit Biddappa, Marketing Manager, Parametric Technology, said the company wanted to exploit the "immense opportunities" in the publishing services industry and also cater to the documentation needs of its existing customers.

Mr. Biddappa said Arbortext was used by industries such as aviation and manufacturing, that required a substantial volume of documentation and integration. Parametric Tech- nology saw Newgen as its flagship customer and would project it as a major player in the publishing industry.

Maran Elancheran, General Manager (Operations), Newgen Imaging, said Arbortext had helped Newgen meet industry challenges such as increasing complexity, shorter delivery cycles and the need to manage content across multiple formats, languages and platforms.

Mr. Elancheran said that it was a "large engagement" where Newgen held about 40 Arbortext licences and a typical customer would acquire one to five licences, which translated to about 160 people.

The company had two production centres in Chennai and one in Bangalore, he said. A new centre, with 400 seats, that could eventually employ about 1,000 people, would start functioning in Chennai from October.
