Zilla Parishad Chairpersons to head the new bodies from October

HYDERABAD: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy has said that the District Planning Boards (DPB) will be revived on October 2, with the Zilla Parishad Chairpersons heading them.

Announcing this at the first conference of the newly elected ZP Chairpersons here on Tuesday, he said Andhra Pradesh was the first State to nominate ZP Chairpersons to head these boards, which would prepare district plans and send them to the Government for approval.

The Chief Minister said Panchayat Raj bodies would be empowered by transferring the functioning of nine key departments covering 12 subjects to them. Referring to complaints of ZP chiefs that their predecessors had sanctioned several works without administrative approval, he directed officials to cancel those which were not launched.
