Malegaon blasts

It is unfortunate that 31 persons were killed and 100 injured in the bomb blasts at Malegaon. As a civilised society, we must hang our heads in shame over the incident. The only way to fight terror is to stand united.

Marada Appala Konda,
Vizianagaram, A.P.

The first law of Cheops, Pharaoh of Egypt ca. 2650-2630 BC and builder of the Great Pyramid at Giza, was: "Nothing is ever built on time or within budget." One hopes it does not prove true of the full-fledged hospital at a cost of Rs.17 crore, the decision to build which was taken by the Maharashtra Government after facing flak from the blasts affected.

A.S. Raj,
Bangalore

This refers to the editorial "Lessons from Malegaon" (Sept. 11). All efforts should be made by the authorities to address the grievances of the people of Malegaon. It is important to send the message that terrorism of all manifestations will be dealt with in the same way. In other words, there will be no soft and hard yardsticks in dealing with terrorism.

P.C. Hamza,
Mannarkkad, Kerala

The frustration of the people of Malegaon was evident when some of them refused to take the monetary compensation from the Government for the death of their relatives in the blasts. The need of the hour is to bring the Muslim community into the national mainstream. The investigation into the blasts should be impartial.

Nakshab Khan,
Aligarh, U.P.

It is no use blaming terrorists alone for the acts of terror. We are equally to blame. We fought among ourselves in Gujarat and Mumbai. Our weakness encouraged the terrorists. They came, killed our brothers and sisters and left us mourning. We wept, criticised, and went back to sleep. Isn't it time we came together to fight terrorism?

Shailesh Kumar,
Bangalore
