Gang-rape: Congress seeks action

Staff Correspondent

BHOPAL: Leader of the Opposition in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly Jamuna Devi on Tuesday said the tribals in the State were not prepared to tolerate the atrocities committed against them under the BJP-led Government.

Addressing mediapersons on returning from Nahargarh, where she had gone to assess the situation after a tribal woman, Rodibai, was allegedly gang-raped on August 21, Ms. Devi said the victim's community was agitated over alleged police inaction. No arrest was made even 20 days after the incident. Hence, they decided to take direct action against those involved. In an encounter between police and tribals at Koniyakalan on Sunday last, a town inspector and a tribal were killed.

The rape victim was present at the press conference.

Ms. Devi said Rodibai was allegedly gang-raped by four persons when she was returning to Nahargarh with her husband and her daughter from Maharajpura.
