ACQUIRING NEW SKILLS: Students learning `kamsale' at Kalamandira in Mysore. PHOTO: M.A.SRIRAM
MYSORE: It is an effort to save indigenous culture and folk arts from the onslaught of urbanisation. "Tanumana," a cultural group, has started a 14-day training programme in folk dance for college students. College students are getting trained in folk dances such as Kamsale, Dollu Kunita, Pooja Kunita, Mari Kunita and Kolata, at the Kalamandira here.
Folk resources
A resource person at `Tanumana' told The Hindu that India's folk resources were on a decline. The youth were being targeted because they were leaning towards western culture and had lost appreciation for folk arts. The youth would also be imparted lessons in the background of folk arts, culture and literature. This would help them appreciate art forms better, the resource person added.
