BHOPAL: The Union Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs, Suresh Pachouri, said here on Tuesday that the Centre had promptly released Rs. 246.67 crores from the Calamity Relief Fund (CRF) for the Madhya Pradesh Government for flood relief.

Mr. Pachouri was addressing a press conference jointly with Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Shriprakash Jaiswal after taking stock of the flood relief situation in Hoshangabad district on Tuesday evening.

He said the Centre had maintained a human approach to the problem of flood relief and after releasing the first instalment of Rs. 98.09 crores, it had responded promptly to State Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan's request to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on August 17 for an additional Rs. 100 crores for flood relief.

Prior to this, the State Congress president Subhash Yadav and the Leader of the Opposition, Jamuna Devi, had also written to the Prime Minister apprising him of the urgent need for Central assistance.

Mr. Pachouri said the second instalment of Rs. 98.09 crores was released from the CRF as advance share for the financial year 2006-07.

"Another instalment of Rs. 50 crores has also been released from the CRF as Madhya Pradesh's advance share for 2007-2008."

The Minister said the Centre had responded to the State Government's demand and released an additional quota of 8 lakh litres of kerosene as well as 5,000 metric tonnes of food grain against a demand of 8,000 tonnes.

Mr. Jaiswal said the Centre had already released advance funds from the CRF and announced that the Centre would give an additional Rs. 50 crores to the State for flood relief.
