Plan to help traders deposit taxes online

CHANDIGARH: The Haryana Government has decided to implement a Cyber Treasury System for traders to have online access to deposit their taxes straight from their offices or cyber cafes without standing in long queues, Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda announced here on Tuesday.

Presiding over a review meeting of the State Department of Information and Technology, Mr. Hooda said the Government would launch this trader-friendly system in collaboration with the State Bank of India.

The traders can also deposit their taxes in any branch of SBI through credit card, debit card and cash, he added.

Financial Commissioner and Principal Secretary, Information Technology, P.K.Chaudhery said that a Rs.102-crore project "State Wide Area Network (Adhaar)'' would be launched with the assistance of the Central Government under which all the offices up to block level would be connected through voice, data and video to bring about complete transparency and efficiency in the administration and improve the level of performance.

The project will be completed within five years.

He said the IT sector in Haryana had registered a 33 per growth during last year and the exports had also increased to Rs. 10,070 crores from Rs. 400 crores in 1998-99.
