THENI : Reclamation of agriculture land offered by tiny and small farmers under two-acre rehabilitation scheme is in full swing in the district. The State Government has sanctioned Rs.13.69 lakh for this purpose. The district administration identified 504.67 acres of wasteland owned by tiny and small farmers for rehabilitation. After reclamation work, this land would be given back to them to take up agricultural activities, said the collector Rajesh Lakhoni. He was inspecting reclamation work being taken up at a farm at Pullimankombai in Andipatti taluk on Tuesday. Two bulldozers and three tractors were used for the cleaning operation. A total of 97 acres in Andipatti beneficial to 57 persons, 186 acres of land beneficial to 117 persons in Periakulam, 25 acres owned by 11 persons in Bodi, 23.69 acres belonging to nine beneficiaries in Theni would be levelled and rehabilitated. Jungle cleaning, land shaping, bund forming and bush plucking would be done using machineries owned by the Department of Agriculture Engineering, he said. The work for rehabilitation had been simultaneously commenced in all taluks, the Collector said.
