Arrangements for smooth procurement of paddy, bajra

Haryana Government has arranged Rs.1,000 crore to make payment to the farmers for the purchase of their produce

CHANDIGARH: The Haryana Government has made all arrangements for smooth procurement of paddy and bajra during the current kharif season. The procurement season of these crops will start from October 1, the Deputy Chief Minister, Chander Mohan, said here on Tuesday.

Reviewing the procurement arrangements, Mr.Chander Mohan directed that two representatives of the Rice Millers Association be included in the Paddy Milling Committee at the district level. He said that the State Government had arranged Rs.1,000 crore from the Reserve Bank of India to make payment to the farmers for the purchase of their produce.

Current season

He said that the production of paddy was expected to be 45.37 tonnes during the current season. The procurement of paddy and bajra would be made as per specifications prescribed by the Government of India. He directed the officers of the Food and Supplies Department to ensure that farmers did not face any difficulty in selling their produce and they were paid within 48 to 72 hours.

Purchase

Mr. Chander Mohan said that 172 mandis had been set up for the procurement of paddy while 41 mandis had been set up for the purchase of bajra.

Financial Commissioner and Principal Secretary Food and Supplies Naresh Gulati directed all the procurement agencies they should ensure that their staff reached their allotted places of duty one day prior to the kharif marketing season.

The Director Food and Supplies, S.K.Monga, said that the control rooms to give information about the purchase would be functional in all districts from October 1. The Chief Administrator, Haryana State Agricultural Marketing Board, Navraj Sandhu, the Managing Director, Confed, R.R.Jowel, the Managing Director, Hafed, Rajan Gupta, Regional Manager, FCI D.P.Gupta were also present.
