CHANDIGARH: The Haryana Government has decided to conduct district level painting competitions for children studying in Class IV and V to make them aware about the need of conserving energy under the National Awareness Campaign launched by the Union Power Ministry's Bureau of Energy Efficiency.

According to Deputy Chief Minister Chander Mohan, District Education Officers would send two best paintings selected in the district level competitions to the Nodal Officer before September 29.The topics include "Save electricity and make one more home energised", "Save one unit a day, keep power cut away" and "When it is bright, switch off the light".

Cash prize

A committee of experts will select 50 best paintings from the entries received and the selected students would be invited at a designated place for State level on-the-spot painting competition of two-hour duration on November 14. The winner of the first prize of the State level competition will be given a cash prize of Rs.10,000. Similarly, the winners of the second and third prizes will be given Rs.8,000 and Rs.5,000, respectively. Five consolation prizes of Rs.1,000 each will also be given. The winners of the first and second prizes of State level painting competition will be invited to New Delhi to participate in the national competition that would be held on December 12. The winners of the national competition will be awarded at a function on December 14 in New Delhi on National Energy Conservation Day.

Nodal Officer

The Secretary, Consultancy Services, Bhakra Beas Management Board, Chandigarh, R.K. Sehgal, has been appointed the Nodal Officer for this region.
