MANGALORE: The general secretary of the State unit of the Janata Dal (Secular), Ibrahim, alleged here on Tuesday that bureaucracy was coming in the way of providing 15 per cent reservation to Muslims engaged in various skill-based professions under category II A and four per cent reservation under category I.

He told presspersons that the State Government had given four per cent reservation to Muslims (to common Muslim castes) under category II B in 2000. In the same year it had given 15 per cent reservation to Muslims engaged in various skill-based professions under category II A and four per cent reservation to them under category I. The Government in 2001 had clarified that Muslims engaged in various skill-based professions were eligible to get reservation under category II A and category I.

This was in addition to the four per cent reservation given under category II B. The skill-based professions under category I and category II-A were kumbara, dhobi, phool mali, darji, rangari, rangrez, kasab, kasali, uppara and shikkaligar.

Many Muslims were engaged in such professions. Hence they should also get the reservation benefits, he said. Mr. Ibrahim alleged that officials were refusing to give caste certificates to Muslims in such professions.
