Naidu asks Government to ensure 9-hour supply
|
HYDERABAD:
Telugu Desam Party president N. Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday said the Government's failure to ensure seven-hour power supply to farm sector had triggered a spurt in farmers suicides.
Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, Mr. Naidu said eight farmers had committed suicide during the last two days, reflecting the gravity of the situation.
The Government has not been putting to practice what it has been promising on the power front and the total number of suicides during the last two and a half years had gone up to 3,302.
He wanted the Government to ensure at least nine-hour uninterrupted power supply to the sector.
This was despite the fact that heavy inflows into reservoirs pushed up power generation, he said. It only showed that the Government had failed in managing power distribution.
There was no plan or strategy to manage a crisis.
