Probe ordered into graft charges against SI

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: Hyderabad Police Commissioner A.K. Mohanty on Tuesday ordered an inquiry into the allegation that Chaderghat Sub-Inspector Damodar Reddy demanded bribe from a youngster who was accused of involvement in an assault case.

Two groups of youngsters attacked each other over a petty issue at Old Malakpet two days ago. Leaders of the two groups Faran and Ahmed sustained injuries. Faran's elder brother Saleem alleged that Mr. Reddy took his brother to police station on Sunday night and detained him illegally for more than 48 hours. "He demanded bribe from my brother and threatened to register a case of attempt to murder," Saleem told reporters staging a demonstration with some locals at the Chaderghat police station.
