KOCHI: Local Administration Minister Paloli Mohammed Kutty, has assured the City Corporation that steps will be taken for the early presentation of the City Development Plan to the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission authorities. The Minister gave this assurance to a delegation led by Mayor Mercy Williams, when it submitted a Rs.10,983-crore development plan to him here on Tuesday. The Kerala Sustainable Urban Development Programme, the State nodal agency for the Mission, would present the plan to make the Corporation avail itself of financial assistance. The Minister assured the civic authorities that the State Government would take up the request of the civic body to write off Rs.64 crore which is due to the Union Government in a transaction related to the Department for International Development for a water supply in West Kochi. He also promised to look into the demand of the Corporation that its right for fixing the maximum floor area ratio for high-rise buildings be restored. The Ministry took the right of the civic body away and it is now vested with the Chief Town Planner, who is based at Thiruvananthapuram. C.K. Manisankar, Deputy Mayor; E.M. Sunilkumar, chairman, Town Planning Standing committee; and A.B. Sabu, UDF council party leader, were present.
