MLA takes up Periyar issue with Minister

KOCHI: Health Minister P.K. Sreemathy held discussions with the chairman and secretary of the Pollution Control Board on the recent discolouration of the Periyar and the steps being taken by the Board to check toxic effluents being discharged by factories on either side. The talks were held after Aluva MLA A.M. Yousuf took up the issue with the Minister. The Minister entrusted the officials with carrying out further studies on the release of effluents and other waste into the river. She also directed them to file a report on the issue. - Staff Reporter

JD(S) demand

KOCHI: The Janata Dal (Secular) has demanded that buses from Vypeen be permitted to ply in city routes. It has also demanded that the functioning of the Pollution Control Board be streamlined, to prevent pollution of drinking water sources like the Periyar. - Staff Reporter

Bank shifted

KOCHI: The Netoor branch of Vijaya Bank has shifted to its new premises at INTUC Junction. The new building was inaugurated by T. Valliyappan, Executive Director of the bank.
