Proposal seeking funds for road repair pending: Minister

Belgaum: Minister for Tourism, Textiles and Infrastructure Development B. Sriramulu has promised to take up quality repair works on all approach roads to tourist centres in the State soon after the Government released the required money.

Talking to presspersons here on Tuesday, he said a proposal in this regard with a request for Rs. 50 crore was pending before the Finance Department.

Once the Finance Department cleared and released the money, repair works would be taken up.

He said tourists from all over the world were showing interest in the heritage, archaeological sites and rich flora and fauna in the State. Therefore, it was inevitable for the Government to improve infrastructure.

He said the Government had provided Rs. 60 crore for tourism development during the current financial year.

The Minister said the Government provided Rs. 15 lakh for tourism development in Belgaum district. He said he would visit the district soon to study the potential of tourist destinations in the district.

Principal Secretary, Infrastructure Development, Vinay Kumar, Regional Commissioner Amita Prasad and Deputy Commissioner Shalini Rajneesh held discussions on steps to develop tourist spots in the district.
