`Drive for research activities more stronger today'

Workshop on `ARM Processor Technology' at Visvesvaraya Technological University


  • Need for ARM-trained engineers seen
  • Certificate, diploma courses likely

    Belgaum: A two-day workshop on "ARM Processor Technology" for the faculty members of Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) and its affiliated colleges in the State was held on Jnana Sangam campus here from Tuesday.

    According to a release here on Wednesday, the workshop was organised in collaboration with ARM Embedded Technologies Pvt. Ltd., Bangalore.

    Amita Prasad, Regional Commissioner for North Karnataka, who inaugurated the workshop, found the drive for research and development activities stronger today than ever. She expressed happiness over the development of the e-campus and infrastructure and the architecture of the buildings on the university campus.

    William Hohl, University Relations Manager, ARM Inc., U.S., who was the chief guest, spoke about the activities of ARM Inc. having its headquarters at Cambridge in the U.K. He said the institution had major design centres in Austin, Sunnyvale, Cambridge and Bangalore.

    He said ARM Inc. was a leading semiconductor intellectual property supplier and involved in the development of digital electronic products.

    K. Balaveera Reddy, vice-chancellor of the university, who presided over the function, said due to increased requirements of ARM-trained engineers in the industry, the university approached ARM Inc. to introduce ARM platform in the university and affiliated engineering colleges to provide training to the university's faculty.

    The university wanted to start certificate and diploma courses in ARM technology, Mr. Balaveera Reddy said.

    Joe Bungo of FAE-University Programme, ARM Inc., U.S., and Shiv Turmari, country manager (sales), ARM Embedded Technologies Pvt. Ltd., Bangalore, were present.

    As many as 25 faculty members from the electronics and communication engineering departments of various affiliated colleges attended the workshop.

    M.S. Shivakumar, Registrar of the university, principals of various engineering colleges, special officers of the university and post-graduate students also attended.
