KOTTAYAM: The Dam Safety Authority on Wednesday inspected the Mullaperiyar dam, which has been in the limelight ever since a tremor in its vicinity on August 18. The four-member team led by chairman G. Sasidharan later told mediapersons that they would take an appropriate decision after a detailed study of the situation. They had asked the Tamil Nadu authorities to submit their suggestions, if any, for their perusal. The team, consisting of IDRB chief engineer N. Sasi, Inter-State Water Resources chief engineer K. Divakaran, and retired chief engineer Kolalavalliamma, visited the main dam, the baby dam and the two galleries inside the main dam. Their attempts to ascertain the rate of flow of the seepage water were not allowed by the Tamil Nadu authorities, who insisted on a written request. The Dam Safety Authority is the fifth mission from the Kerala side which visited the dam site after the recent tremors. An Assembly panel visited the dam on Tuesday and a Congress team on Monday. Another team led by Forests Minister Benoy Viswom is expected to visit the dam site on September 15.
