Kalamassery Industrial Estate going places

Special Correspondent

The products and services find markets across the nation

KOCHI : It is a success story and speaks volumes for the entrepreneurial talent of the private sector with the Government acting as facilitator. The Kalamassery Industrial Estate, near here, has been going places with several thriving companies once again proving that, given the right ambience, Kerala entrepreneurs can conquer the world.

Products from the estate have an amazing range, from chemicals to paints, food products to oleoresins, agricultural implements, containers and packaging materials, web services, plastics and polymers, industrial chemicals etc. The Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC), in its latest publication, Infinity, paints a glorious picture of the strides made by the industrial estate.

The newly-started Women's Apparel Park is also situated within the estate. The products and services find markets across the nation, and several of them have expanded their wings even to foreign countries.

Exports

Economic Food Solutions Private Limited, which is a pioneer in the export of processed food, is an example of the success story. Its exports go to various parts of the world, mainly the European Union countries and the United States. The products have crossed 280 in number, ranging from "unniappam to elayada " to tapioca-fish curry mix, which Keralites across the world savour with nostalgic memories of rich food culture. "We are going in for a major expansion with new kitchens and equipment to satisfy the new demand,'' said Cyriac Joseph, managing director.

Vaishali Industries, makers of fragrances and flavours, has introduced several products with innovative ideas. They include perfumes, balms, natural pain relievers, masala tea, spice tea, lemon grass tea, shampoo and hair tonic, curcuma and `ramacham' soaps, massage oils, perfumes and body creams and spice concentrates.

Hi-Build Coating, a paint manufacturing unit in the estate, is another success story. Started as a small-scale industry, the company has established its presence in the local market. Two years back, Sadolin Paints Oman Limited bought 50 per cent stake in the company and is now going in for a major expansion.
