Thiagarajar College of Engineering lifts title

Madurai: Host Thiagarajar College of Engineering (TCE), Madurai, defeated PSNA College of Engineering 4-2 to lift the title in the Anna University Zone-9 inter-engineering hockey tournament here on Wednesday.

Saravanan (14th and 24th minutes), Senthilkumar (27th) and T. Vinodh (53rd) scored for TCE. Prabu scored both the goals (eighth and 15th minutes) for PSNA College.

In the match for the third place, Sethu Institute of Technology bt Pandyan Saraswathy Yadava Engineering College 6-0.

Earlier in the semifinals, TCE downed SIT 2-1, while PSNA blanked PSYC 3-0.

RDGAC men win

At Karaikudi, Raja Duraisingam Government Arts College (RDGAC), Sivagangai, and Alagappa University College of Physical Education (AUCPE), Karaikudi, had mixed fortunes in the Alagappa University inter-collegiate hockey tournament finals at Karaikudi on Wednesday.

RDGAC won the men's title defeating AUCPE 4-0, while AUCPE won the women's title defeating RDGAC 3-0.

Naresh, Rajaguru, Thavasilingam and Jegadeeshkumar scored in the men's final for RDGAC.

In the women's final, Kalai Arasi scored a brace and Jenifer scored one for AUCPE.

GMC in final

At Tirunelveli, St. John's College, Palayamkottai, and Government Medical College (GMC) entered the final of the India Cements Trophy district-level inter-collegiate cricket tournament organised by the Tirunelveli District Cricket Association defeating TDMNS College, Kallikulam, by five wickets and MDT Hindu College by two wickets respectively at the Sankar School ground on Wednesday.

The scores: Semifinals: TDMNS College 146 for nine in 30 overs (Prabu four for 17) lost to St. John's College, 147 for five in 26.5 overs (Rajadurai 40, Anand 42 not out).

MDT Hindu College 108 in 20.5 overs (Balamurugan three for 10, Prince three for 14) lost to Government Medical College 109 for eight in 18.2 overs (Jeyaraj 36, Antony three for nine).

Sub-junior Natl. football

At Nagercoil, the 28th sub-junior National football championship for the Mir Iqbal Hussein Trophy Phase I (Group IV, South Zone) matches will be organised by the Kanyakumari District Football Association under the auspices of the Tamil Nadu Football Association at the Anna Stadium, here from September 15 to 24. Five teams — Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Pondicherry — will participate in the championship, which will be played on a round-robin league.

Inter-engg. college games

At Ramanathapuram, Mohamed Sathak Engineering College, Kilalarai, will conduct the seventh annual State-level inter-engineering college games meet at Kilakarai from September 16 to 19.
