Puthiya Tamizhagam leader calls for labs to test blood samples in State
|
CHENNAI:
The Puthiya Tamizhagam (PT) on Tuesday called for urgent measures on the part of the Union and State Governments to tackle the chikungunya epidemic.
Expressing concern over the prevalence of the disease, K. Krishnasamy, founder-president of the party said laboratory facilities should be created throughout the State to test blood samples from the affected persons. The State and Central Governments should mobilise resources and ensure the establishment of the laboratory facilities. At present, the samples were sent to the National Institute of Virology in Pune, Maharashtra. Training programmes should be conducted for doctors handling people affected by the disease. As mosquitoes were the carriers of the disease, a programme on the lines of the National Malaria Eradication Programme should be carried out, Dr. Krishnasamy suggested.
Criticising the attempts to politicise the provision of treatment to the affected persons, the PT leader said demonstrations would not help the people.
