Social responsibility

By refusing to accept the ex gratia offered by the Government, two relatives of the Malegaon blast victims have virtually laid the foundation of the state-of-the-art hospital sanctioned by the Maharashtra Government. It should be named after them in recognition of their selflessness and highest degree of social responsibility.

M.V. Saranath,
Chennai

By refusing to take the cheques, the two men debunked the customary practice of political leaders who seek to ease their conscience and cover up their failure by paying money.

V.T. Joshi,
Bhopal

The killing of people, Hindu or Muslim, should be condemned in the strongest terms. Unfortunately, the sangh parivar, which is quick to blame Muslims for all acts of terror and raises the pitch every time a blast occurs in any part of the country, has more or less looked the other way in the case of Malegaon. And the police who start their combing operations in Muslim areas after every blast are clueless about the perpetrators of the blasts.

Salman Zafar,
Roorkee, Orissa

Time rolls on. The people's memory is short; the media's even shorter. The victims will soon fade away from the scene. Everything will seem fine till the next disaster strikes.

Susanna K. Jose,
Vellore
