KOZHIKODE: M.S. Jayanth, Chief Commercial Manager, Southern Railway, has said that the Chennai-Mangalore super-fast express train announced in the Railway Budget will start service soon. He gave this assurance to office-bearers of the Calicut Chamber of Commerce and Industry who met him on Wednesday. Mr. Jayanth was on an official visit to the station here. The office-bearers, led by chamber president C.E. Chakkunny, submitted a memorandum. Mr. Jayanth said modernisation of the Kozhikode Railway Station and completion of platform work, and rail doubling and other construction activities on the Shoranur-Mangalore sector would be done at a faster pace. Sufficient number of contract labourers capable of executing railway works on a time-bound manner was not available. This was delaying many projects, he said. The memorandum demanded, among others, urgent completion of the modernisation, facilities for stopping express and super-fast trains by expanding platform no. 1 at the station, renaming Kallai and West Hill stations Kozhikode South and Kozhikode North, respectively, and making the Kannur-Yeswanthpur (Bangalore) train a daily service.
