HASSAN: A set of proposals to amend the Lokayukta Act was sent to the Government on August 8, Lokayukta N. Santosh Hegde said on Wednesday. After it was amended, another set of proposals to amend the Criminal Procedure Code and the Prevention of Corruption Act would be sent to the Government to provide more teeth to the institution, he said.
Three-pronged approach
Mr. Hegde was speaking to presspersons during his visit to the district. He said he believed in adopting a three-pronged approach creating awareness about corruption, educating the younger generation on its impact on society, and taking punitive action to tackle corruption. There was an urgent need to change the methodology of investigating cases, he said. Mr. Hegde said that he had sent a set of amendment proposals almost similar to what his predecessor had sent. But he has not sought powers given to the Upa Lokayukta as demanded by his predecessor. He has sought it only under special circumstances.
