KSEB Chairman told to pay withheld pension benefits

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Lok Ayukta Justice K. Sreedharan and Upa Lok Ayukta Justice K.A. Mohamed Shafi has directed T.M. Manoharan, chairman, Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB), to pay pension and other retirement benefits withheld by the board to B. Raveendran, Deputy Chief Engineer, who retired from service on October 2003.

The Chairman had issued a notice to Mr. Raveendran pointing out that he had incurred a liability of Rs.9,53,568 with an interest of 18 per cent to the Board by way of payment of excess amount to a contractor.

The Lok Ayukta, in its order, noted that no disciplinary proceedings were initiated against the petitioner or was pending against him at the time of his retirement. No order fixing any liability was passed against him.

The Lok Ayukta directed the chairman to pay the amount due to the petitioner towards retirement benefits with 12 per cent interest.

The Lok Ayukta also directed the chairman to pay the interest portion personally.
