Youth Congress organise march to Collectorate

Special Correspondent

Thiruvananthapuram: Youth Congress activists took out a march to the District Collectorate here on Wednesday, alleging that the Health Department had failed to check the outbreak of chikungunya in the State.

They said the meeting convened by District Collector N. Ayyappan to discuss the epidemic issue was a farce.

Youth Congress district president Manacaud Suresh inaugurated the public meeting held in front of the Collectorate. Addressing the party workers, he said the district administration was trying to hoodwink the people and suppress public anger at the failure to check the epidemic.

Tight security

A heavy posse of police was deployed in front of the Collectorate to prevent the workers from disrupting the meeting convened by the Collector. The police also set up barricades. The workers held the meeting on the road after the march was halted by the police.
