This Day That Age
Lok Sabha adjourned sine die on September 13 at the conclusion of the five-day debate on the Second Five-Year Plan. It was announced by the Speaker that it had been recommended to the President by the Government that November 14 should be the date for the commencement of the next session. Prime Minister Nehru, in his reply to the debate, referred for the first time to the latest developments in the Middle East, and the possible effect it might have on the implementation of the Plan if the situation did not improve. While they could all hope for the best and try to be optimistic, Mr. Nehru cautioned that they could not ignore the dark shadow hanging over them, and if they could not escape the possible developments they should stand up to meet and shoulder the heavier burdens caused by the developments, and carry on the Second Plan.
