CHENNAI: Students of the PSBB Group of Schools showcased their academic skills to teachers from Singapore through various interesting events last week. Teachers from 14 schools in Singapore visited the PSBB School branch on T.P. Road, T. Nagar, to learn the teaching methods, and the maths curriculum of the students here. The activities began with cultural programmes such as performances of classical dances in India and the singing of a song on national integration in Sanskrit. The recital of the `Chennai Anthem', which was written and set to tune by students, received much appreciation. The guest teachers, Windersalam S. Devi from Admiralty Primary School, Williams Pushpam from Huamin Primary School, and Koor Siew Hwa from Woodlands Ring Primary School witnessed pre-kindergarten students performing `five little monkeys' using stick puppets. The students were then quizzed on the song. While pupils of Standard I learnt when to use the indefinite articles `a' and `an' with the help of a computer, students of Standard II presented `Freeze Frames', an event that involved audience participation. Students of Standard III showcased their knowledge of multiplication tables through a game of cops and robbers: a student who was given a multiple number (for example, 24) had to arrest criminals who had the corresponding factors such as 2x12, 3x8. A session on spoken English proved interesting for both the guest teachers and the students. The students had to listen to a speech given by the teacher and spot the errors in it and suggest corrections. The guest teachers also visited the creative science lab of the school, where apparatus used by children to carry out experiments such as the electric circuit and wiring in a home were displayed. The teachers from Singapore had cherished moments and creative teaching techniques to carry back home from Chennai.
