State police keep press away from Andhra DGP

K.T. Sangameswaran

CHENNAI: Keep the press away as far as possible. This seemed to be the attitude of officials when the Andhra Pradesh DGP, Swaranjit Sen, was in the city the other day.

As he met Tamil Nadu police officials over the weaponry seizure in his State, a battery of photographers and presspersons had gone to the police officers' mess at Egmore to have a word with him regarding the investigation. But, the Tamil Nadu policemen, who were on duty would not allow presspersons to go anywhere near the building's entrance door. They repeatedly claimed that Mr. Sen had told them that he would not like to meet the press.

An Assistant Commissioner said that the DGP was resting and that he should not be disturbed. The presspersons told him clearly that they would not disturb anyone, and that if the DGP could talk to them while leaving for the airport he could do so. But, the officer requested the reporters to leave the mess premises.

Despite this the presspersons waited, as it was a sensational case. At last, Mr. Sen spoke to them for a couple of minutes before getting into his car to leave for the airport.
