Pondicherry
Special Correspondent
Pondicherry: District Collector cum District Magistrate of Pondicherry G. Theva Needhi Dhas has directed all those, who had displayed banners, cutouts and other material in and around Pondicherry, to remove them before Friday as unauthorised display and those not taken down beyond the licence period were found to be disfiguring the town and its peripheral areas. In a press release here on Wednesday, Mr. Dhas said although there repeated warnings had been issued to those displaying the banners and cut-outs, they had not responded properly and hence the revenue and municipal authorities would invoke the provisions of Pondicherry Open Places (Prevention of Disfigurement) Act 2000. The authorities would launch "Operation Banners" from September 16 and recover the cost of dismantling the material from the concerned persons or organisations. In addition to this, criminal action would also be filed against the offenders in the nearest police station, Mr. Dhas added.
