Nitish for larger Assemblies

`Necessary for political stability'
|
PATNA:
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday said the strength of the State Legislative Assemblies should not be less than 100. This was necessary for development and political stability required across the country, he told a press conference.
After the reverse suffered by the NDA Government in Jharkhand, Mr. Kumar expressed concern over a few independents deciding the fate of governments merely because the Assembly was small in size and no political party or coalition had a clear majority.
The situation favoured horse-trading and there was no guarantee that the next government would be able to provide stability, he said.
Mr. Kumar's Janata Dal (United) was a coalition partner in the NDA Government.
The JD (U) had played a crucial role in removing Babu Lal Marandi as the Chief Minister and putting Arjun Munda in his place.
