KURNOOL: Rain across the district has brought cheer on farmers' faces. Except seven mandals, all areas in the district have received rainfall.

Wednesday's showers drenched the parched lands in the worst-hit Adoni mandal. Though the spell of rain might not help the withered crops, it would definitely help farmers of black cotton soil to sow crops.

Kallur accounted for the highest rainfall of 116.2 mm followed by Kurnool 114 mm, Kodumur 98 mm, Peapuly 93 mm, Devanakonda 72 mm, Dhone 70 mm, Pathikonda 64 mm, Gonegandla 63 mm, Srisailam 62 mm, Pedda Kadubur and Mantralayam 60 mm, Gudur, Yemmiganur and Aspari 40 mm and Nandavaram 35 mm.

Water enters houses

The rain in Kurnool city inundated low-lying areas. Water entered houses at Ganesh Nagar, K.E. Krishna Murthy Nagar, Basavapunnaiah Nagar and Janardhan Rao Nagar as Suddavagu drain overflowed.

M.A. Gafoor, MLA, Jagannatham, CPI city secretary, and other leaders visited the areas and urged the authorities to take steps for widening of Suddavagu drain. They urged immediate relief for the victims.
