HPRC-2, Indian Navy post victories

HYDERABAD: Hyderabad Polo and Riding Club-2 and Indian Navy chalked up victories on the opening day of the Army Commanders Cup, the first tournament of the Hyderabad Polo season, which began at the Bison polo ground on Thursday.

While HPRC-2 beat APRC 13-3, Indian Navy got the better of Artillery Centre Nasik 5-3.

HPRC-2, represented by Brandon Fahey, Khader Siddiqui, Suman Bandi and Pratik, had a team handicap of plus four, while the APRC team, comprising M.I.R. Ahmed, Salim Azmi, Yousuf Azmi and Raza Shehzad, had a team handicap of plus one and was therefore given an advantage of two goals.

For HPRC-2 Brandon Fahey and Pratik scored five each, while Khader Siddiqui scored two and Suman Bandi one. For APRC the lone goal was scored by young Raza Shehzad.

In the other match Indian Navy's A. Sirohi gave his team a flying start by scoring twice in the first chukker. He followed it up with a gaol each in the second and third chukkers to complete the tally. For Artillery Centre Major Raj Sangram Singh scored all three goals.

Big win for Neeraj

Neeraj Public School recorded a 193-run win against International School in the Himalaya Cup inter-school cricket tournament (under-16) on Thursday.

The scores: Boys Town 397 (Ata-ur-Rehman 59, Syed Khaza 46, Mirza Munawar Baig 68, Sk. Waheed 47, Siddiqui Afsar 41, Prithviraj four for 19) bt Sri Gujarati 39 (Waheed four for 15).

St. Peter's Model 212 for nine (V. Srikanth 55, Ananda 56) bt Sri Chaitanya Residential 152 for eight.

Neeraj Public 297 (B. Karunish Kumar 89) bt International 104.

Model Mission 171 (Sreevatsan four for 40) lost to Raghavendra Model 172 for six (A. Vineeth four for 38).

Teja's century in vain

A century by D.B. Ravi Teja (122, 17x4, 1x6) for Hyderabad went in vain as it lost to Assam by eight wickets in a three-day practice match at the ECIL ground.

The scores:

Hyderabad 268 (D.B. Ravi Teja 122, Bichita Bardah four for 89) & 169 (Naveen Reddy 47, Arlen five for 26) lost to Assam 299 (Jason Lawrence 127, Parag Das 40, Ashwin Yadav four for 89) & 142 for two (Amit Sinha 51 n.o., Sarupam 53 n.o.).

Rapid chess
