The Hindu in semifinals

VISAKHAPATNAM: K.R. Deepak's half-century and D. Ravikumar's incisive bowling earned holder The Hindu a comfortable eight-wicket victory over Press Photographers XI in the quarterfinals of the CMR-VJF inter-media cricket tournament at the Port Stadium here on Thursday.

Ravikumar conceded just six runs in three overs and claimed four wickets, while P.V.V.S. Gautham picked up two wickets to restrict Photographers to 103. Ravi (34, 5x4) played well for Photographers.

The Hindu raced to victory with Man of the Match Deepak (55, 7x4, 1x6) and captain Sumit Bhattacharjee (21, 2x4) putting on a half-century partnership. It won with more than seven overs to spare.

Meanwhile, Eenadu edged out The New Indian Express (TNIE) by four wickets in another match. Off-spinner V.K.H. Syamala Rao claimed five wickets for Eenadu to restrict TNIE for 113. He was declared Man of the Match. Ramana Kumar was the top-scorer with 31 (5x4). TNIE 's K. Venkata Ramana accounted for four Eenadu wickets.

Eenadu takes on Deccan Chronicle and Visakha FM faces The Hindu in Friday's semifinals.

Press Photographers XI 103 in 19.2 overs (Ravi 34, D. Ravikumar four for six) lost to The Hindu 104 for two in 12.4 overs (K.R. Deepak 55). Man of the Match: K.R. Deepak.

The New Indian Express 113 in 17.5 overs (Ramana Kumar 31, V.K.H. Syamala Rao five for 23) lost to Eenadu 114 for six in 16.3 overs (K. Venkata Ramana four for 25). Man of the Match: Syamala Rao.
