Anandakrishnan committee report by October 15
Special Correspondent
CHENNAI:
The M. Anandakrishnan Committee, constituted by the State Government to examine the modalities of scrapping the Common Entrance Test for undergraduate professional courses admissions, will submit its report to the Government by October 15.
"We are examining all the responses received so far. There seems to be an urban-rural divide as far as students' opinion on the CET. While the rural students want the CET to go, urban students are in favour of its continuation," committee chairman, M. Anandakrishnan, told reporters on Thursday.
The committee has received about 3,000 responses so far. While rural students cited lack of access to coaching centres as a reason for not favouring CET, urban students expressed dissatisfaction with the pattern of Board examinations.
The committee, which has the Commissioner of Technical Education, as member secretary, also includes the Higher Education Secretary, Law Secretary and Health and Family Welfare Secretary as its members, apart from C. Thangamuthu, Bharathidasan University Vice-Chancellor and former Law Secretary K. Parthasarathy.
Based on the committee's recommendations, the Government is expected to come out with clear guidelines for abolishing the CET from the next academic year.
