GULBARGA: The secretary of the Pragnya Yuvaka Sangha Allamprabhu Nimbarga and treasurer of the Dalit Sangharsha Samiti (Bheema Vada) Suryakant Kadaganchi launched an indefinite fast in front of the residence of BJP MLA Sunil Valyapur on Thursday. They are demanding basic amenities in Hirapur and Biddapur layouts in the outskirts of the city. The two, accompanied by the residents of the two localities, came in a procession to the residence of Mr. Valyapur. In a memorandum addressed to the Chief Minister, the office-bearers of Pragnya Yuvak Sangha and the DSS said that the residents had on several occasions had urged the corporation to provide amenities, but nothing had been done so far. The memorandum demanded that the Government declares the entire Hirapur layout as a slum, and take steps to begin construction of 55 houses, for which Rs. 5,100 was collected by the Slum Clearance Board three years ago. Drinking water supply to these two layouts should be improved and encroachments removed from the lands allotted for burial ground for SCs, ST and minorities, it said.
