Handicrafts technology institute mooted

APHDC puts up proposal to Chief Minister


  • The proposed institute to be on the lines of NIFT
  • Corporation seeks 10 acres of land
  • Subsidy on red sanders sought to make and export handicrafts

    HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh Handicrafts Development Corporation Ltd on Wednesday proposed to the Government to establish a State institute of handicrafts technology, on the lines of NIFT.

    The proposal submitted to Chief Minister Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy by Chairman B.Anjan Raju envisages development of handicrafts in the State and degree/diploma courses for the benefit unemployed.

    Centre to fund

    Mr. Raju and Managing Director B.Jayaraj told a press conference here that the Centre was ready to provide Rs.1 crore for the proposed institute for which the corporation was seeking 10 acres.

    They said the corporation also proposed to Dr. Reddy that it be supplied red sanders on 75 per cent subsidy to enable manufacture of artefacts for export to South East Asia and Buddhist countries. Karnataka, which was extending similar subsidy, had been exporting artefacts made of red sanders worth over Rs.2.5 crores.
